This book’s full title is What’s Next . . . For You?: The Gussin Guide to Big Changes, Big Decisions, and Big Fun. In this book the Gussins share the experiences of what happened after they retired. They prefer to say they “graduated” into new careers rather than retired. After retiring from their corporate careers they went on to start new careers as writers, publishers, and vineyard owners. This book reads as somewhat of a memoir of their lives after their retirement. It was an interesting read but I was a bit disappointed since the word “guide” in the title led me to believe it would be a how-to type of book. If you just read the book for what it is it can be a nice inspiration for anyone who is looking to start a new career after their traditional retirement.

Glad you were able to figure out how to leave a comment. I’m curious as to why it was difficult to figure out how to leave a comment though. The comment form is at the end of the blog post the same as most blogs. If the form isn’t showing up let me know and I will see if I can fix it. It is showing for me.

Sounds like a very interesting book! Many of us yearn to follow our dreams, but very few of us are able to take the plunge and make a career change. It would be great to do something you have always dreamed of after retirement. I guess it would be necessary to be financially secure before you think of following your dreams. It may not make sense if you will eat into your savings by the time you are 70! Those who are retiring early and who have savings or sources of income may be better equipped to start a new career. Get some experience in the field that interests you before you retire. You can do this by working part-time or volunteering. Think about your motives and check the numbers before you make up your mind.
With two years to go before retirement, I’m looking for any and all advice on how to successfully make this somewhat scary change.

Grace – Thanks for the feedback. I see what the problem is now. The comment form shows up when you are looking at a single post but now when you are viewing the page as a whole. I will try to fix this tomorrow. There were a few other entrants to the giveaway but they were all in comment moderation. I was on vacation Saturday-Tuesday so I didn’t get them approved before Tuesday night.
I haven’t read the book yet, but I applaud the idea of doing big things after we leave paid work.
We need a new word to replace “retirement”, because for many of us, it the time when we finally can do what we’ve always wanted to.
And that opens up some exciting possibilities.
